STREET HUNGER - STATISTICS IN PENINSULA -Shortall of approx 20,000 Meals monthly for approximately 250 people (aside from individual once off public efforts)
Counciller Simon Liell Cock told us last meeting in a meeting in FIsh hoek 2018 that about 10,000 people are considered ot be living on the street in the capetown so we might surmise that very roughly around 800,000 meals may be being skipped over the spread of Capetown

(statistics are approximated only based on dialogue with outreaches, the haven kalk bay and churches)
From deductions shown below there seems ot be a shortfall of approx 20,040 meals over a monthly period in the simonstown , fish hoek and muizenburg area.(includes people coming fomr ocain view lavender not working there or other problem, sas wel as poeple living on the street ) 22500 monthly meals needed for 250 people 300 meals from PSC Food packs +haven tickets 840 meals from fish hoek 6 outreaches 24 meals from outreaches per month 35 meals from average people fed in each 420 meals from simonstown 3 outreaches 21 outreaches per month 35 average people fed in each 900 muizenburg car guards 90 haven tickets 20,040 Approx Shortfall of meals per month. So how much of this shortfall in meals is the public provising and is that really possible? If we use up our current budget R900+ ) 43 people from our HAVEN TICKETS and FOOD PACKS project could have enough morvite for 1 week (one meal a day )

We need to go beyond politics and blame. Hunger alleviation, when every year 10 million people die from hunger or chronic malnutrition is simple matter of the heart and body. As in thevideo below its clear how this comes about. It really is simply poverty.
|
- 5- 10 km ( is a long way to wak to a shelterfrom muizenburg to kalk bay for one meal every day even if we could distribute enough Haven tickets (those we do we check if used and there is feedback that some are but poeple keep them for emergencies and are always only to eager to have just 1 * R10 meal ticket)
- The haven understandably is not geared to provide more than about 3 extra meals and needs advance warning before 12.30 or 4.30 each day for meals -
- The haven is willing to make special larger meals but these have to be organised beforehand and we don’t have transport costs to get 20 people there from either simonstown or Muizenburg
- The shelter in simonstown Happy Valley does not provide food to people on the street (by tickets or any other means) .
- Those who have addiction issues have no transport money to get to outreach rehabs ( AA / Narcotics anonymous groups could not cater for the amount of poeple but without food support, having street hunger issues noone can successfully utilise any rehab -generally Matrix city capetown rehab caters for poeple with homes and few shelter people as shelters do not consdier themselves rehabs and have only smallest allocations for those undergoing rehab )
- Those would like to work for food voucher at U turn in claremont do not have the transport to get there unless they beg or do car guarding which is a contradiction because the time that takes precludes even travelling there.
