ASSESSMENTS
Assessments can take place with a social worker in the shelter or employed elsewhere to determine the root of the problem, whether family breakdown, lost and dislocated persons, poverty, loss of income, substance addiction, escape from gang townships and a multitude of causes.
REINTEGRATION WITH FAMILY
A persons family would be ideally contacted and reintegration into family take place, depending on factors like a families willingness or just ability to support the person whilst they found a job. Also depending on the families not thekmsleves being toxic and part of the cause pf person escaping to the street.
SUBSTANCE ABUSE
In CapeTown Drug and alcohol addictions is very high and needs specialised rehab. The Haven shelters have their own outpatient centre the MATRIX, where approx 3 hours a day of intensive group and individual counselling can take place whilst the person sleeps at a shelter . Nevertheless the issues of denial are hard for many to surmount to even be ready for such programs. Denial stemming a lot from shame. A long period of about 6 weeks to 3 months rehab might be needed before person is even ready to look for work again
